Some Juvederm products, including Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, contain lidocaine to reduce the pain from injection, although patients might still experience discomfort during and after the treatment. The treatment reduces facial wrinkles and smile lines for up to a year. In some cases, the treatment requires additional touch-up injections that typically contain smaller amounts of the dermal filler. Patients who are allergic to proteins that produce hyaluronic acid or have a history of pigmentation disorder should avoid Juvederm treatments.
Juvederm products can cause skin irritation, bruising or swelling near the area of injection. To reduce the risk of such side effects, patients should avoid engaging in physical activities, exposing the treatment area excessive heat or consuming alcohol within the first 24 hours after the procedure. Based on the clinical studies performed in the United States, up to 90 percent of patients noticed a maintained improvement 24 weeks after the treatment, while 79 percent returned for additional treatments.Learn more about Skin Care
