To tie a tie in a Windsor knot, encircle the tie around the neck, wrap the wide end around the narrow end to make a knot and pull the wide end through the loop to make it inside-out. Pull the wide end through the loop a second time, slip it through the knot and draw the knot up to the collar.
- Encircle the neck
Flip up the collar of the shirt. Lay the tie round the neck, under the collar. The wide end of the tie should fall roughly 12 inches below the narrow end.
- Start the knot
With both sides of the tie facing up, cross the wide end over the narrow end. Holding firmly to the narrow end, draw the wide end between the tie and the collar tip.
- Complete the first knot
Draw the wide end of the tie back down, keeping the fabric flat. Both ends of the tie should be face-up.
- Start the second knot
Loop the wide end around the narrow end again, and draw the wide end all the way to the right. The wide end should be inside-out.
- Complete the second knot
Pull the wide end across your shirtfront and around the narrow end again. Slip the wide end through the space between the collar and tie. Pull the wide end up, and tuck it into the knot at the front.
- Straighten the knot
Smoothly pull down the wide end. Draw the knot up to the collar, and ensure the knot is straight between the collar points. Smooth the collar back down.
