Herbal Essences shampoos include a number of chemical ingredients like propylparaben, fragrances, triceteareth and ceteareths, along with colors and alcohols. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reports that certain cancer causing ingredients were minimized.
Herbal Essences is the name of a Proctor and Gamble, or P&G, product line. According the the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the company reformulated the product after it was revealed that Herbal Essences shampoos contained an inappropriate level of 1,4-dioxane, a carcinogen. The Environmental Working Group reports that Herbal Essences shampoos contain other chemicals, such as a formaldehyde releaser, octinoxate, and triisopropanolamine, which may contribute to allergies.
