Homemade serums to promote eyelash growth include conditioning ingredients such as castor oil, aloe vera gel and biotin. These ingredients absorb into eyelash hair follicles to nourish and moisturize them so that they can maintain length as they grow out, says makeup artist Lisa Pullano.
To make a castor oil serum, blend three parts castor oil with one part of a 50-50 mixture of almond and vitamin E oil, says Jenni Raincloud. Store the castor oil mixture in a clean mascara container and apply it every night. Another variation of the castor oil serum recipe substitutes aloe vera gel for almond oil to encourage faster growth, says The Beauty Gypsy.
Biotin, a nutrient that helps hair grow fuller and longer when taken internally, can also be applied topically to lashes. To make a biotin lash serum, blend the contents of four biotin liquid softgel capsules with a 1/4 teaspoon of lubricating eye gel or eye drops, recommends Lisa Pullano.
