Many edible oils, such as coconut oil and olive oil, and many fat-rich foods, such as mayonnaise, avocados and eggs, are excellent remedies for dry hair, according to Reader's Digest. Plain yogurt, sour cream and honey can also benefit dry hair, states Woman's Day.
According to WebMD, hair gets dry when the scalp doesn't make enough oil or hair allows oil to escape. Replenishing that oil directly by massaging a little coconut or other oil into the scalp is one option. Woman's Day suggests concocting a "hair mask" out of half a cup of honey and an egg yolk or some mashed avocado. An avocado mashed with an egg works well too, according to Reader's Digest. Either way, to replenish moisture, apply the mask to damp hair, and cover with a shower cap for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
