A homemade facial mask is made by combining foods, oils, flowers and other things. Some recipes are good for all skin types, but there are also specific recipes for oily, combination, dry or sensitive skin. To get the best results from a homemade facial mask, apply it to clean skin, and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, gently remove the mask using hot water and a soft cloth.
An oatmeal mask is good for all skin types. Combine 1 tablespoon of finely ground oatmeal, 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt and a few drops of honey. This mask leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed.
For oily skin, try a soothing banana mask. Mash together a ripe banana and 2 tablespoons of honey. Add a few drops of orange or lemon juice. Use a blender to combine the ingredients, if desired. Apply the mixture all over the face, and be sure to use a moisturizer after removing it.
An avocado and honey mask moisturizes dry skin. Mash up half of a ripe avocado, then mix in 1/4 cup of honey. Another version of the avocado mask adds 1 boiled, mashed carrot and 1 egg yolk to half of a ripe avocado. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and half a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil, and mix well.
To balance combination skin, mix 2 tablespoons of rosewater with a tablespoon of full-fat plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of honey. Add a few soaked, crushed rose petals to this mask, if desired.
