Apple-cider vinegar, coconut oil or hydrogen peroxide can be used to treat acne at home. Most remedies are applied several times daily, and require about a week to begin seeing results.
Apple-cider vinegar has antibacterial properties and can help reduce acne breakouts when used regularly. To treat acne with vinegar, mix equal parts of apple-cider vinegar and water, and apply the mixture to the affected skin daily with a cotton ball or clean cloth. Rinse the area after 10 minutes, and apply the mixture one to three times daily. The mixture should be stored in a sterilized container between uses, or mixed daily to maintain freshness.
High-quality, organic coconut oil also has antibacterial properties and can be used to treat moderate to severe acne breakouts while moisturizing the skin. To treat acne with coconut oil, melt a small amount of the oil and apply it to the affected areas at least twice a day. The oil works to remove any impurities in the skin, which may cause an increase in outbreaks initially. Typically, the skin becomes clearer after a week of consistent use. Coconut oil can also be consumed in moderation to promote healthy skin.
A solution of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide is often used to treat mild acne outbreaks. To use peroxide, wash and dry the affected skin and apply the peroxide with a cotton ball. Do not rinse. This treatment is typically applied once daily.
