Fabric shoes can be washed in the washing machine on a normal cycle with regular laundry detergent. White vinegar can be added to the final wash since this helps to kill odor-causing bacteria. Shoes can then be placed in the dryer or allowed to air-dry.
Another option is to make a deodorizing powder from baking soda, cornstarch and tea tree oil. Place a generous amount in shoes, leave them overnight, and simply discard the mixture before wearing the shoes.
Newspaper can also be stuffed into shoes to absorb sweat and remove some of the odor. Since cold temperatures can kill bacteria, smelly shoes can also be placed into a bag and put in the freezer.
These methods can be combined if shoes are particularly odorous.Learn more about Shoes
