To treat acne with a good home treatment, form a paste from one crushed aspirin and water. Apply that paste to acne with a cotton swab for 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, which is the active ingredient in most store-bought acne treatments.
Tea tree oil is another active ingredient in good home treatments for acne as it is an effective antiseptic. Tea tree oil also has anti-inflammatory properties. Squeeze three to four drops of tea tree oil onto a cotton swab, ball or pad and gently tap the oil onto blemishes. Let the oil soak into skin for three hours, or leave it overnight. Cleanse the area with warm water and pat dry.
Ice effectively reduces pimple swelling and inflammation. Wrap an ice cube in a clean cloth or paper towel, and hold it to the affected area for two to three minutes. The cold constricts the blood vessels surrounding the pimple, causing the pimple to reduce in swelling and redness.
Apple cider vinegar is also a good home treatment for acne as it contains alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acid is a toning ingredient in typical store-bought acne treatments that kills bacteria and peels away dead skin.
