Give hair volume by using the right shampoo and conditioner, going easy on heavy products, blow drying properly, using the right tools and trying dry shampoo. Even limp, unwashed hair can be volumized with a few tricks and tools.
Start with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. These products don't weigh hair down, and weight is an enemy of volume. Don't condition the roots, but focus conditioner on the ends.
Avoid heavy products. Choose hair products designed to be lightweight and add volume. Even hairspray can crush full hair. Try spraying the air and walking through the mist. Spray hands and smooth over strands to tame flyaways without pulling hair flat.
Blow dry hair properly for maximum lift. Don't flip hair down and blow dry up. This technique doesn't add height to hair. Instead, lift small sections of hair, and aim the blow dryer at the roots to help them dry upright, giving hair the desired volume.
Get the right tools to plump up hair. Try a flat-backed brush instead of a comb to back-brush. Use a large-barrelled curling iron to add volume-producing waves. In a pinch, use the tips of your fingers to massage unwashed hair at the roots for an instant volume boost.
Try dry shampoo. Not only does the spray add volume to the roots, but misting it over the length of hair from the bottom boosts volume from the roots to the tips. Dry shampoo can raise even limp, dead styles with a few sprays and a quick fingertip massage.
