To remove gel nails, file the nail surfaces, soak the nails in acetone, scrape the gel with an orange stick, wash your hands, and buff the nails until they are smooth. This 30-minute process requires soap, water, a file, an orange stick, scissors, a buffer, acetone, foil and cotton balls.
- File the nails
Scrape the surface of the nails with a coarse nail file. Make the nails as rough as possible.
- Soak the nails in acetone
Cut five cotton balls in half, and soak them in acetone. Cut 10 squares of aluminum foil. Place a cotton ball half on one nail, and wrap it in a foil square. Repeat with the remaining fingers. Leave the cotton balls on the nails for five minutes.
- Scrape the nails with an orange stick
Slide off the foil and cotton balls, but do not discard them yet. Scrape the softened gel with an orange stick. If some gel remains stuck to the nails, reapply the acetone-soaked cotton balls, wait five minutes, and scrape the nails again. Discard the cotton balls and foil.
- Buff the nails
Wash your hands with mild soap and warm water. Buff the nail surfaces until smooth, and shape the tips with a file.
