Replace the button on a pair of jeans by using a tack and small hammer. Install a new button by pushing the tack through the hole and hammering the button onto the tack.
- Locate the button hole
Lay your jeans facing up on a work surface. Unzip the fly and open up the jeans to locate the hole. If your old button is not fully removed, make sure to remove it before starting. Grip the waistband and turn it over for the back of the hole.
- Insert the tack into the hole
With one hand holding the waistband over so you are looking at the back of the hole, insert the new tack through the back of the hole, and push it through the hole. If the hole is too large for your new button, make a smaller hole as close as possible to it.
- Place the button on top of the tack
Once your tack is through the back of the hole, flip the waisband back so you are looking at the front of the jeans while holding the tack in place. Position the button on top of the tack.
- Hammer the button
Place a flat work surface, like a cutting board, between the front and back of your jeans beneath the tack. Use a small hammer to hammer the button onto the tack.
- Test the new button
Make sure the new button is secure by buttoning up the jeans.
