The John Robert Powers School and Agency still exist today, with many locations across the United States. Fashion modeling started in the early 20th century as designers began to use live models at runway shows. Prior to this, designers used mannequins for modeling clothes.
Fashion or runway models were not used for print or magazine photos. Actresses and socialites were preferred for print ads and magazines until the 1960s.
