What Is a Fashion House?

A fashion house is a place where high-fashion clothing is designed and made. Fashionable clothes are also usually sold in a fashion house.

Fashion houses are located all over the world. Many people associate fashion houses with world famous designers like Louis Vuitton, Cavalli and Gucci. Fashion houses usually have teams of people that design and create high-fashion clothing.

Well-known fashion houses in America are located in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas and Chicago. They include designers like Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors.

Britain's fashion houses include Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson and Stella McCartney, and most of England's fashion houses are located in London. In France, Paris is at the heart of French fashion, and many of the world's fashion designers get their inspiration from French fashion. French fashion comes from the minds of great designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. Some French fashion houses only make made-to-order clothing.

Italian fashion usually comes out of Milan and is always cutting edge. Designers like Gucci, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana originate from Milan, Italy. Japan even has its own fashion houses and the designers design and make colorful, Japanese fashion. Designers like Kenzo, Yohji Yamamoto and Commes des Garcons call Japan home.
