To dry out a pimple, first apply ice, dab on tea tree oil and follow with a spot treatment. Follow up by drying the pimple overnight with lemon juice, and then express the whitehead with cotton swabs.
- Use ice to reduce swelling
Start by reducing the pimple's swelling with an ice pack. Wrap ice in a thin towel, and hold to the pimple for at least five minutes.
- Dab on tea tree oil
Use a cotton swab to dab a small amount of tea tree oil onto the area surrounding the pimple. The anti-inflammatory properties help reduce swelling, while the anti-bacterial properties prevent the pimple from growing. Try not to get the tea tree oil directly on the top of the pimple.
- Apply a spot treatment
Look for spot treatments that contain either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, both of which kill bacteria and help dry out the pimple. Apply the spot treatment directly to the pimple, being careful not to get it on the surrounding skin.
- Dry the pimple overnight
Continue the treatment overnight with lemon juice. Soak a cotton ball in fresh lemon juice, and apply a liberal amount to the pimple. Leave the lemon juice there overnight, rinsing it off in the morning.
- Use cotton swabs for pressure
Once a whitehead appears, use cotton swabs to apply pressure to express the pimple. Do not use your nails or another tool as this can damage the surrounding skin.
