What Is Done During a Pedicure?

The steps in a pedicure are to remove nail polish, moisturize toes, trim and file nails, trim cuticles, scrub feet smooth and apply new nail polish. While one foot is being tended, the other is soaked in a foot bath.

Every salon differs in the order of steps, the moisturizing products applied to the feet and the types of bubbles used in the foot bath. Every customer has her own personal assistant serving her, beginning with an overall cleaning of the feet. Old layers of nail polish are removed, and moisturizer is applied to dry areas. Then hangnails are removed and nails are filed and trimmed down. A pumice stone or callus remover smoothes rough skin, more moisturizer is applied and a new coating of nail polish finishes the pedicure.
