How Do You Dip-Dye Your Hair With Kool-Aid?

To dip-dye hair in Kool-Aid, you must mix Kool-Aid and hot water, then dip the hair into the resultant mixture. This process works best on lighter hair, so you may want to bleach the ends of your hair for a more vibrant color.

  1. Heat water

Put 2 cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl or cup and microwave for five minutes until boiling. This can also be done on the stove, but water heated on the stove must then be transferred to a plastic bowl or cup for mixing.

  2. Add Kool-Aid

Mix two packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid into your hot water with a spoon. Be sure to use two of the same flavor, or you run the risk of your hair not picking up part of the color. If you intend to dye all of your hair, dividing your mixture between two containers makes the process go more quickly.

  3. Define dye height

Put rubber bands around the ends of your hair as a visual marker for how much hair you want to dye. It is common to dye 2 to 5 inches when doing the entire head.

  4. Dip hair

Put your hair in the hot water and Kool-Aid mixture up to your rubber bands, then wait 15 to 30 minutes for the dye to absorb into your hair.

  5. Dry hair

Once your hair has been dipped, pat dry with an old towel. Do not use new towels, because the Kool-Aid is likely to dye the towel. Give your hair time to finish drying, either by air or with the help of a blow-dryer. Once your hair is dry, try to wait two or three days before washing again, to give the Kool-Aid time to properly set.
