Trunks, boardshorts, swim briefs and square-cut shorts are some different styles of men's bathing suits. Jammers are another type of men's swimwear, mainly useful in competitive swimming.
Trunks are the most common type of men's swimwear. Their appearance is similar to that of shorts, and they usually come in lightweight materials that dry quickly. Boardshorts are similar to trunks but are longer in length and have a non-elastic waistband.
Swim briefs, popularized by the Speedo brand, fit snugly in a V shape and expose the thigh. They are usually made of nylon and spandex. Similar to swim briefs, square-cut shorts hug the body, but they extend to partially cover the upper thigh. Jammers are tight-fitting swimwear that extend to the knee. Competitive swimmers wear them to reduce drag.
