Initially, the Osborne I was a huge success and retailed for $1,795. The first fully portable computer consisted of a keyboard, a monochrome monitor, two floppy disk drives and free software, all enclosed in a protective carry case.

Unfortunately, due to heavy competition and bad marketing, sales of the Osborne I dropped dramatically, causing the Osborne Computer Corporation to file for bankruptcy protection in 1983.
