The best way to darken blond hair is to apply lots of lowlights, and then treat all of your hair with a transparent color rinse or glaze. This two-hour procedure requires a hairbrush, a wide-toothed comb, a low-lighting kit, protective gloves, an old shirt, towels, hair clips, a colored rinse or glaze, liquid soap and shower access.
- Brush your hair
Brush your hair, and put on an old shirt. Open your bathroom window, or turn on the fan.
- Prepare the lowlights
Don protective gloves, and open the low-lighting kit. Mix the chemicals according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Section your hair
Divide your hair into sections, and secure them with clips.
- Apply the lowlights
Apply the low-lighting solution to the sections you wish to darken. Keep the solution on your hair for the length of time indicated by the manufacturer.
- Rinse and condition your hair
Remove your gloves. Rinse the lowlights from your hair with lukewarm water. When the water runs clear, apply the color-depositing rinse or glaze to your entire head. Wash your hands immediately so they do not stain. Leave it on according to the directions on the bottle, and then rinse with cool water. Apply conditioner, give it five minutes to work and rinse again.
- Comb your hair
Wring out your hair, and drape a towel over your head. Squeeze and blot your hair with the towel, and then wrap it around your head. Keep it there for about two minutes. Remove the towel, and comb your hair with a wide-toothed plastic comb. Dry and style your hair as you wish.
