Ugg boots originate from Australia. The basic Ugg boot consists of two pieces of sheepskin that are joined at the bottom by a soft sole. Their warmth and flexibility made them popular footwear for surfers in the 1960s.
Ugg boots were brought to the United States by Brian Smith, an Australian surfer who founded UGG Australia in 1978. UGG Australia became a major fashion brand in 2000, when the Classic Short boots were featured on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. The company offers a wide range of sheepskin shoes, outerwear, sleepwear and handbags, along with many varieties of sheepskin boots.
