How Do I Clean White Converse Footwear?

Clean your white canvas Converse shoes by hand with a toothbrush, laundry detergent or dish detergent, cold water, two small soft cloths and a sink or basin. The cleaning process should take no more than one hour to complete before the shoes are set aside to dry.

  1. Prepare your shoes

Ensure your shoes are completely dry, and knock the soles together to remove or loosen any dirt or debris that may be in the treading. Remove the shoelaces, and set them aside.

  2. Use a toothbrush to target stains

Put cold water into a basin or sink with a bit of detergent. Use the dry toothbrush first to brush on the sole and sides of the shoes to see if there is any dry debris that may fall off. Then, wet the toothbrush in the detergent mixture, and scrub the remaining spots in a circular motion. Continue to rinse and remoisten the toothbrush to ensure it is cleaning the shoe. Scrub from the outside of the stain towards the inside. Repeat this process on the next shoe.

  3. Rinse the shoes and set to dry

Once you've washed each stain with the detergent mixture and toothbrush, wet each shoe with cold, clean water to remove any remaining soap. Take a soft cloth, and ball it up before placing it into the shoe to help keep the shape as it dries. Place the shoes in a warm, well-ventilated area to dry.

  4. Clean the shoelaces

Place the shoelaces in the detergent mixture, and soak them for a few minutes before using the toothbrush to scrub any stains. Rinse the laces clean, and hang them to dry.
