How Do You Clean Leather Handbags?

To clean a leather handbag, wipe the interior of the purse with a soft cloth, wipe the exterior with a soap and water mixture and buff the surface of the bag. Treat the surface of the bag with a leather protector or conditioner.

The ingredients necessary to clean the leather bag are a soft cleaning cloth, mild liquid soap, distilled water, a small bucket, warm water and a sponge. Additional necessary items include a dry towel and a leather conditioner. Before cleaning the interior of the purse with a soft cleaning cloth, empty all of the contents out of the bag. Mix a few drops of the liquid soap with 2 cups of distilled water and dip the sponge into the mixture so that it is barely wet and wipe the exterior surface.

The next step is to dry the exterior and buff it with the dry towel to restore the luster. To remove an ink stain from a leather bag, dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol, apply it to the stain and dry it with a blow dryer. To remove a dark stain such as food or blood, mix cream of tartar with lemon juice and apply it to the stain for ten minutes. Afterwards, rub the mixture off and clean the leather as normal.
