To take care of hair, use an appropriate shampoo and conditioner regularly. Take care when towel drying, combing and blow drying the hair to prevent damage and keep hair healthy.
- Shampoo hair regularly
Select a shampoo appropriate for your hair type, whether dry, normal, oily or chemically-treated. Saturate the hair completely with water, and add up to the recommended amount of shampoo. Massage the scalp while lathering, then rinse thoroughly.
- Condition the hair
Use a conditioner appropriate for your hair type. If your hair is dry, select a moisturizing conditioner. Normal to oily hair requires a lighter conditioner. Pour the recommended amount into your palm and work it into the hair, starting with the ends and moving up. Rinse the conditioner out with tepid water.
- Towel the hair dry
Squeeze excess water from the hair with your fingers. Place an absorbent towel on top of the hair, and squeeze gently. Alternatively, turn your head upside down, wrap the towel around from underneath and wrap the hair into a turban. Never rub the towel over the hair, as this causes damage.
- Comb out the tangles
Use a pick or wide-tooth comb to remove the tangles. Start with the ends and work your way up to the roots. Never start at the scalp and rake the comb through, as this can cause breakage.
- Dry the hair
If possible, allow the hair to air dry. Otherwise, apply a heat protecting product to the hair and use a low heat setting to dry hair to no more than 85 percent dry.
