Recently highlighted hair should be washed no sooner than 48 hours after it is dyed. This allows the natural oils to return to the scalp, locking the color fully into the cuticles.
Because newly dyed or highlighted hair is in a more fragile state, avoid the harshness of hot water and metal combs for the first few days after coloring. Hot water and hair dryers can open the hair cuticle, dulling the effects of the treatment. Instead, seal in the color and shine by using cool water at the end of showering. To further prevent highlights from fading, avoid washing hair more than once every other day.
