Beauty fans who want to keep it natural can make their own makeup using natural ingredients such as olive oil, sunflower oil coconut oil, beeswax, honey, beetroot powder and cocoa powder. They can mix these ingredients to make things like tinted lip balm and eye shadow.
Tinted lip balm is one of the easiest cosmetics to make. The recipe uses a simple beeswax base and natural ingredients like beetroot powder or cocoa powder for color. The lip balm base consists of:
- Three parts beeswax
- Five parts coconut oil, sunflower oil, grape seed oil or castor oil.
Crafters can also add a few drops of essential oil to add some natural scent to the recipe. To add color, they can use non-irritating spices such as cinnamon, cocoa powder, beetroot powder or natural food coloring. Cinnamon and cocoa create brownish tones, whereas beetroot powder and food coloring create reddish tones.
Crafters can make the base first, melting the wax and oil in a glass jar inside a pot of boiling water. They can then add small amounts of color at a time until they get the desired shade. While the mixture is still warm and liquid, they should pour it into a small container or jar.
Basic eye-shadow is also easy to make. Crafters can make a basic base out of one part arrowroot powder and one part shea butter and use kitchen ingredients like cocoa powder, allspice, beetroot powder and turmeric for color. They can experiment with mixing different ingredients to create different shades. More color ingredients creates intense shades, whereas using less creates lighter shades.
