To shrink nylon, wash the nylon in the washing machine using hot water, then dry the fabric in the dryer using medium heat for approximately 15 minutes. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the desired size is reached. Once properly sized, the garment should be washed in cold water for any subsequent cleaning and dried on low heat to preserve the fabric and sizing.
- Wash the material
Fill the washing machine with hot water, and add 1/2 cup of ammonia, if desired, to prevent the nylon fabric from fading. Add the garment to the water, and let the washing machine run for a complete cycle.
- Dry the material
Once the wash cycle is complete, place the fabric in the dryer. Set the dryer on medium heat and run for about a quarter of an hour. Avoid high heat to prevent damaging the fabric.
- Repeat as needed
If the nylon has not shrunk to the required size after drying, repeat the the washing and drying cycles in order to shrink the fabric further. After the process is complete, avoid exposing the garment to high temperatures, as this can cause additional shrinkage or damage to the fabric.
