Tattoo artists identify cocoa butter as one of the possible aftercare products for new body art. Other effective lotions include Eucerin, Lubriderm and Aveeno lotions. These products are used to help the skin stay soft after the procedure.
Typical instructions for caring for a new tattoo include gently washing it three to four times a day, removing all previous lotion. The skin should be patted, not rubbed, dry. A thin layer of fresh lotion such as cocoa butter is then smoothed over the area. The skin should appear shiny, and the lotion should not be visible. To avoid skin reactions, the lotion should be free of dyes and fragrances.
