How Can You Prevent Forehead Wrinkles?

There are many ways to help prevent the formation of wrinkles, such as avoiding too much sun exposure, eating healthily, drinking enough water and getting enough sleep, according to WebMD. If someone smokes, their chances of forming wrinkles are higher, too.

Wrinkles can be caused when protein levels of collagen and elastin are reduced. These proteins are what gives skin its elasticity and, when there is not enough of these proteins, the skin cannot easily bounce back to its original position. To combat the reduction in these proteins, there are many simple lifestyle choices someone can make.

Avoiding sun exposure is the easiest way to combat skin aging. For those who can't imagine being indoors all of the time, a strong sunscreen of SPF15 or higher can help fight the release of enzymes, which can break down collagen. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, low-glycemic carbohydrates and healthy fats can help fight free radicals that can cause cell damage. Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water a day can help keep the dermis layer of skin hydrated. Research shows that smoking can release an enzyme that breaks down both collagen and elastin, which can cause wrinkles and the thinning of the skin, according to dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone. When a person does not get enough sleep, the body releases more cortisol, which can break down skin cells.
