Beauty experts recommend applying Maybelline and other types of foundation by first cleansing the face and applying the foundation with clean hands. A foundation primer can be used to provide the right surface for applying foundation since it leaves the skin smooth and ready for color.
A moisturizer or a moisturizing sunscreen can also be applied beneath the foundation to help ensure hydration of the skin. Some foundations have moisturizers and/or sunscreens built in.
After the moisturizer and primer is applied, a concealer can be added to camouflage any imperfections. Use concealer under the eyes to combat dark circles. A concealer that is lighter than the foundation used can help lighten up dark spots.
Foundation can be applied with either a foundation brush or a sponge, although many people just use their fingertips to apply it. Using a brush allows for less foundation to be used. Dots of foundation should be applied to the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. Those dots can be blended in with the brush, sponge or fingertips, and then the foundation can be blended around the hairline and jaw line to ensure there's no telltale line of coverage. Loose powder or setting powder can be used to set the foundation and make it last for a longer period of time. Many women reapply powder during the day to control oil and keep their foundation looking fresh.
