Can Men Wear Leotards and Tights?

Men can wear leotards and tights. While most men do not wear them as everyday garments, some men wear them when participating in specific sports or performance arts.

Jules Léotard originally invented the leotard, then called the "maillot," for men. They were initially worn by circus performers. Men continue to wear leotards as of 2014 when performing as dancers or gymnasts or in the circus. In addition, cyclists, rowers, runners and wrestlers wear garments similar to leotards. Men's leotards are traditionally cut lower in the chest and leg openings than women's leotards. Men also wear tights while running, spelunking and playing football, and some men also wear them under their outer garments during freezing weather.
