A five-strand braid is done in a similar way as the more common three-strand braid. First, split your hair into five equal sections. Cross the strands by using a specific pattern, and tie off the braid with a hair fastener. The process takes just a few minutes.
- Split the hair into five sections
Split a section of hair into three sections. Cross the right strand over the middle strand, then the left strand over the new middle strand. Next, take a new section of hair on the right side, this should be the fourth section of hair. Cross the new right-hand strand under the strand beside it and then over the middle strand. Next, take a section of hair on the left side of the head to make your fifth strand. Cross this strand under the strand next to it then over the middle strand.
- Braid the five strands in a specific pattern
As you braid the hair, alternate adding sections of hair on the right and left sides to the subsequent strands. Weave the added strands under and over as before until there is no more hair to add. Continue braiding in this pattern until you have reached the end of the braid.
- Tie off the braid
Finally, use a hair fastener to tie the braid.
