Proactiv products can be purchased directly from the brand's website, leading online retailers and from the brand's product kiosks. The Proactiv website also has a kiosk search feature to help their clients locate the nearest available kiosk where they can buy Proactiv products.
Proactiv is a name of a brand of specialized skin care products, most of which are designed to treat and manage acne. The original formulation was developed by Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields in 1989 with the help of a chemist that they hired using their own funds. The Proactiv brand was officially founded in 1995 in the same year that the direct marketing company, Guthy-Renker agreed to distribute and market the product.
As of February 2015, the primary product of Proactiv is a three-stage, anti-acne treatment set. The set includes a facial cleanser and exfoliating solution for the first step, a stronger, benzoyl peroxide based pore treatment solution and a hydrating solution. Other products in the Proactiv line include toners, moisturizers and anti-dandruff shampoos. Among the active ingredients in Proactiv products include benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and glycolic acid for acne treatments, octinoxate and zinc oxide for moisturizers and zinc pyrithione for anti-dandruff shampoos.
Proactiv products can be purchased outside of retail stores. This strategy is aimed at minimizing the embarrassment of buying anti-acne products in public. In 2010, around 60 percent of Proactiv sales came from online orders, while the rest of the sales came from the brand's own mall kiosks, vending machines and certain boutiques.
