Brands of basketball shoes that can be customized by the manufacturer include Nike, Adidas and Reebok, as of 2015. Customizable Nike products are called NiKeiD, and customizable shoes have "iD" in the product name. Customizable Adidas products are called miadidas, and customizable shoes have "mi" in the product name.
Customizable features vary depending on the shoes, but often include color patterns and graphics. Parts of the shoe that may be customizable include the lining, laces, midsole, tongue and heel. Team or other logos may also be design options on certain parts of the shoes. Certain shoes also allow wording to be embroidered in a customized font and color. Manufacturers may have separate customization options for both shoes, allowing the left and right shoes to have design variations.
Basketball shoe models may be designed for a specific player. Examples include the Kobe X iD, the Lebron 12 Premium AS iD and the mi D Lillard. These models can then be customized further by the customer. Shoes that are not designed for a specific player include the Nike Zoom HyperRev iD and the Pump Omni Lite. Manufacturers may offer several starter designs for one type of shoe, which a customer can choose to customize further.
Customized basketball shoes may take several weeks to design.
