To bleach your hair at home, put on protective clothing, mix the bleach, and apply it to the center of each strand. Apply the bleach to the roots, pull it through to the ends, and process until the hair is light enough. Rinse completely, and deep condition the hair.
- Put on protective garments
Drape a towel around your shoulders, securing it in front with a clip. Make sure your collar is not peeking above the edge of the towel. Put on protective gloves.
- Section the hair
Create four equal sections in the hair by creating a part from ear to ear and another from forehead to nape. Clip each section.
- Mix the hair bleach
In a plastic bowl, mix the bleaching ingredients. For four shades, use 30-volume, and for five or more shades, use 40-volume. Blend the ingredients thoroughly.
- Start applying the bleach
Hair near the scalp and at the ends processes quicker. Starting at the nape of the neck, apply the bleach from 1 inch away from the scalp to 2 inches from the end of the hair with a tint brush. Work your way up the section, and repeat the process for all four sections.
- Finish applying the bleach
Watch the hair carefully. Once the color has started lifting, go back, and apply the bleach from the scalp to the original application line. As soon as you finish applying to the roots, pull the bleach through to the ends.
- Process the bleach
Cover the hair with a plastic cap. Check the color every five minutes by removing the bleach with a wet towel from a small strand. If the color is still too dark, reapply the bleach to the dark spot, and continue processing until the hair has reached your desired level of lightness.
- Rinse out the bleach
Wet your hair, and massage the bleach to emulsify it. Using lukewarm water, rinse out the bleach until the water runs clear. Follow immediately with a deep conditioner to repair any hair damage.
