"Beard burn" is the irritation that surfaces when someone aggressively rubs his beard across smooth skin. Beard burn often happens when a man with a beard kisses a woman with delicate skin.
To prevent beard burn, Allure magazine recommends moisturizing the skin well before coming in contact with someone who has a beard. If the skin becomes irritated after being in contact with a beard, Allure suggests rubbing hydrocortisone cream on the affected area. Facial scrubs and exfoliators should not be used until the skin is no longer red and irritated. Applying petroleum jelly to the lips can also prevent beard burn.
