What Is a Tea Cup Puppy?

Teacup puppies are canines that are specifically bred to be at least 1 pound smaller than the AKC standard weight for the breed. Many different canine breeds are bred to be classified as teacup varieties.

As the name implies, some teacup puppies are actually small enough to fit inside a teacup. Teacup puppies gain popularity due to their small size; however, their smaller size can cause them to have many health issues. Fatal blood sugar drops, blindness, heart trouble and respiratory issues often plague these dogs and only worsen with age. Teacup dogs also have tiny, fragile bones that fracture easily.
