The difficulty and amount of time it takes to straighten hair depends on the length, thickness and type of hair styled. You can straighten your hair by using a flat iron and a brush or comb.
Find the best flat iron
Flat irons can be found online and in most drug stores and salons. Ceramic flat irons are the best flat-iron option for your hair because they are the least damaging, but they tend to be more expensive than non-ceramic flat irons.
Warm up your flat iron
Once you obtain your flat iron, turn it on and allow it to heat up for 3 to 5 minutes. Make sure not to set your flat iron down on any sort of flammable or wooden surface, because the hot iron can burn it. Set it on a toilet seat, bathroom counter or on the edge of a sink.
Separate your hair into inch-long sections
Using hair clips or rubber bands, separate your hair into smaller sections, ideally about 1 inch wide.
Run your flat iron down along each section of hair
Straighten one section of hair at a time, from root to tip. Start straightening the sections of hair on the bottom of your head and work your way up. When you are ready to straighten a section of hair, untie it and brush it out with a comb or a brush. Make sure that your hair is dry. Clamp the flat iron onto the section of your hair close to your scalp and slowly pull it down to the tips of your hair. Repeat one or two times as necessary.
