What Is SSIS?

"SSIS" is an abbreviation for SQL Server Integration Services, and it is an element of Microsoft's SQL server database software. SSIS is used to migrate files in the server through downloading, copying, and allowing users and server managers to update existing data warehouses.

SSIS was first introduced with the release of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as a replacement for the earlier Data Transformation Services functionality. As of 2014, SSIS is only available on the Enterprise, Standard and Business Intelligence versions of the SQL Server. SSIS is categorized as an ETL tool, which stands for data extraction, transformation and loading.
