Salt Lake City is located on land that used to be an ancient body of water, Lake Bonneville. Lake Bonneville once spanned parts of Utah, Nevada and Idaho with a maximum elevation of 5,200 feet. The city is the capital of Utah, and it had a population measured at close to 200,000 people in 2013.
