Rowan University was established in 1923 and is a public research university, rather than a private university. The school was originally established mainly for the purpose of offering 2-year teacher education programs, but the school later began to offer programs in other fields starting during the 1930s and 1940s. As of February 2015, the university has been recognized by such organizations as the Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report as a top college, according to the Rowan University website.
Rowan offers degrees up to the doctoral level and has campuses in both Camden, New Jersey and Glassboro, New Jersey. It features schools of education, medicine, engineering, performing arts, biomedical science and business, among others.
