A clogged bathroom sink is a common household problem, and there are several home remedies to try before calling a plumber or resorting to a chemical drain cleaner. Using a plunger works in many cases. Boiling water, baking soda, salt and vinegar can also be effective.
When using a plunger, fill the sink basin partly full with water and apply pressure on the plunger in strong, repeated strokes. If plunging fails, try pouring a pot of boiling water into the sink. Pouring a 1/2 cup of baking soda into the sink, followed by about 3 cups of boiling water can be effective. For tough clogs, pour in 1/2 cup of salt, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of boiling water, and let sit overnight.
