The Americano, Mai Tai, Negroni, Martini and French 75 are classic cocktails. Make a French 75 by filling a cocktail shaker with ice and adding 1 1/2 ounces cognac, 1/2 ounce simple syrup and 1/2 ounce lemon juice. Shake vigorously, strain into a martini glass and top with sparkling wine.
Add ice to a rocks glass before pouring in 1 1/3 ounces frozen gin, 1 ounce sweet vermouth and 2/3 ounce Campari to make a classic Negroni. Garnish the drink with an orange wheel. Vary a Negroni by experimenting with different sweet vermouth from Martini & Rossi, Cinzano or Carpano Antica Formula.
Make the classic Manhattan cocktail with Italian or French sweet vermouth. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 2 ounces rye whiskey, 1 ounce Carpano Antica Formula and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Shake well and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry.
The Sidecar is another popular and satisfying cocktail. Fill a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes, 1 1/2 ounces VSOP cognac, 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier and 1/3 ounce fresh lemon juice. Shake well and double strain into a cold coupe glass. Serve a Sidecar over ice for a summertime-inspired drink.
