Moringa is a supplement derived from the Moringa oilefera tree native to areas of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The bark, flowers, fruit, leaves, root and seeds of the plant are used medicinally in treating a variety of ailments, according to WebMD.
Patients have sought moringa for relief from arthritis, asthma, constipation, diabetes, diarrhea, epilepsy, stomach pain, headache, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney stones, thyroid disorders and bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral infections.
The supplement is also believed to reduce swelling, increase sex drive, prevent pregnancy, boost the immune system and increase breast milk production.
Moringa is sometimes applied topically to the skin as a germ-killer or drying agent and has been used to treat infections, warts and wounds.
