To create waves in short hair, add moisture in the shower, and blot dry. Apply the correct product. Dry the hair most of the way with a diffuser. Finish drying while using a round brush to create waves, and add a few curls at the end.
- Moisturize in the shower
Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair to minimize frizz. If your hair is dry, leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water.
- Blot hair dry
Use a microfiber towel to blot excess moisture from the hair. Do not use a terry cloth towel to rub the hair, as this promotes frizz.
- Apply product
Apply a small amount of the correct product to your hair. For curly hair, spray a curl enhancer. For straight hair, apply a volumizing mousse, starting at the roots and scrunching it into the ends.
- Dry hair with a diffuser
Attach a diffuser to your blow dryer. Flip your head over. Shake your fingers in the roots, but avoid handling the ends. Keep drying until the hair is 85 percent dry.
- Finish drying the hair
Return to standing, and remove the diffuser. Switch to a low-air, high-heat setting. Use a small round brush to create waves. Roll the brush in the strand while aiming the blow dryer down the shaft. Roll the front sections back, and alternate the direction of the other waves.
- Add a few curls
Use a large-barrel curling iron to create a few curls around the hairstyle. Only curl the mid-shaft to the ends, not the roots. Alternate the direction of the curls. Tousle the curls with your fingers.
