This popularity is sometimes reflected in fun ways, as was the case in 2013 when Joy dishwashing liquid was the detergent used to break the Guinness world record title for the longest line of washed plates. The event, which took place in Malaysia, was sponsored by Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Joy. To earn the record-breaking title, approximately 26,213 cleanly washed plates formed several lines around the Bukit Jalil running tracks. Amazingly, all of the plates were washed using a single 800-milliliter bottle of Joy dishwashing liquid.
As part of the event, 20,000 hungry Malaysians consumed thousands of plates of nasi lemak, a popular Malaysian dish. The record-breaking attempt was part of a brand-awareness campaign to celebrate the strength of Joy's improved cleaning power.
