"Avatar," "Titanic," "The Sound of Music," "Star Wars" and "The Dark Knight" are some of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Adjusted for ticket price inflation, "Gone with the Wind" is the highest-grossing movie in U.S. history with $1.6 billion.

Some of the other highest-grossing movies include "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial," "The Ten Commandments," "Jaws," "Doctor Zhivago" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Without adjusting for ticket price inflation, "Avatar" ranks as the highest-grossing movie with $760 million, followed by "Titanic" with $658 million and "Marvel's The Avengers" with $623 million. Those three movies also rank as the highest-grossing movies worldwide, with both "Avatar" and "Titanic" surpassing $2 billion in box office earnings.
