What Are Some Good Recipes for Crock-Pot Mashed Potatoes?


Creating mashed potatoes in a slow cooker is as easy as cooking potatoes in the slow cooker for 4 hours before mashing and combining them with butter, sour cream, chicken broth and a few spices. Add a little milk to get the desired consistency, and stir before serving.

Create slow-cooker mashed potatoes by peeling 5 pounds of potatoes and cutting them into small chunks. Add the potatoes to the slow cooker with 1/4 cup of butter and 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth. Cover, and heat on high for four hours, or until the potatoes are soft and easy to mash.

Measure 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder and onion powder into the slow cooker. Add 1 cup of sour cream or plain yogurt. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher, or mix with a handheld mixer until smooth. Warm 1/2 to 1 cup of milk, and add to the potatoes a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached. Cover, and reduce the heat to warm or low until serving. If desired, garnish with 2 tablespoons of sliced or chopped chives.

For added variety, make loaded mashed potatoes by adding 1/2 pound of cooked bacon, crumbled, and 1 1/2 cups each of shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheeses to the slow cooker an hour before serving.
