Effective mold removal products include chlorine bleach, chlorinated cleaners and any mold-removal product containing bleach. White vinegar and tea tree oil can also effectively kill spores.
Chlorine bleach has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and can disinfect and sterilize surfaces. To make a homemade bleach cleaner, mix 1/2 cup of bleach with 1 quart of water. To boost the mixture's cleaning properties, add a dash of detergent. Products containing chlorine or bleach, such as Comet, can also be effective for getting rid of mold.
The acid in white vinegar can kill both mold and mold spores. To remove mold with vinegar, do not dilute the vinegar with water. Simply spray vinegar on the mold and let the liquid dry.
Tea tree oil has both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which make it a good substance for mold removal. To make a homemade mold cleaner, mix 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil and 2 cups of water. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and shake it to blend the oil with the water. Spray it directly on mold to kill mold growth and spores.
Be sure to remove all mold before painting, caulking, tiling or carpeting a surface. As moisture allows mold to thrive, use a dehumidifier in the room after removing the mold to keep any remaining spores from spreading.
