Ham Salad Recipe
Ham salad is a very easy recipe to make. Use it as a sandwich filling or serve it on crackers or toasted bread as an appetizer. To make a basic ham salad, use the following steps.
Prep time: 15 minutes
Ready in: 15 minutes
- 4 cups cooked ground ham
- 1/2 ground onion
- 2 tbsp. chopped celery (optional)
- 1/4 cup bread and butter pickles or pickle relish
- Mayonnaise to taste
- Mustard to taste
- 1 tsp. horseradish (optional)
- Mix the ham, onion and pickles
- Add the mayonnaise and mustard
Mix the ground ham, onion and pickles or relish in a bowl. If pre-ground ham is not available, add ham to a food processor in batches to grind it, and mix in the celery.
Add the mayonnaise and mustard to taste. Recipes such as the Food Network's "Amy's Mom's Ham Salad" recommend equal parts of each, whereas others such as Taste of Home magazine's "Ham Salad Spread Recipe" recommend using more mayonnaise. Add 1 tsp. of horseradish to give the salad some extra bite. Blend ingredients well.
Store any unused ham salad in the refrigerator until serving.
